Michael Rinat Biography Print E-mail
Wednesday, 06 February 2008

Michael Rinat was born in 1952 in Odessa (Ukraine).  He grew up in the Crimea and later moved to Riga, where he studied foreign languages at the University until graduation in 1974. At the same time he studied art in the Fine Arts Academy of Riga. After emigration to Israel in 1979, he continued his art studies with private teachers.

A sculptor since 1985, he began to develop his unique style of bas –reliefs, dealing exclusively with The Old Testament   themes.

Abraham and Itshak, Jacob and Rachel, David and Bathsheba are his heroes. The neo-classic, figurative style of his work makes all the scenes carved by Michael Rinat easily recognizable.

The sculptor just wants to say: “Look, this is how it all happened in the land of Israel!”

To tell the stories so old, the sculptor chose a material, which serves the mankind since antiquity – the white marble.

Simple and delicate, these esthetically accomplished works take root in the art of ancient Greece, but are undoubtedly filled with a different content: the viewer is immediately engulfed by the images and the spirit of The Old Testament.

Michael Rinat lives and works in Modiin, Israel.
