The third eye is my inner eye The book of reflections.
Phtographs: Shifra Levyathan Text: Emmanuel Bar-Kadma Publisher: Masada From the first moment I discovered the magic world of reflection, I was inexorably drawn to it. This multilayered revelation is at once a perfect mirror image of reality, and at other times distorted, with the reflected image splintered into a strange, imaginary world filled with speckled shapes reduced into astonishing abstraction. More than once as I roamed with my camera I sensed that I was lifted from the real world and suspended in a parallel reality - but a reality that only exists when it is spotted by the eye, and immortalized by the camera, leading me to wonder if conventional world is really the only true reality. To me it was clear that everyone sees things as I do, and I was amazed to discover that the reflection, that very present and alternate reality, actually exists for just the few. Most people see only the landscape of their surroundings, but for me it only serves as a backdrop for the real happening: the reflection. I have arranged the order of the photographs so that they flow from the obvious to the complex. Beginning with reflections that are accurate images of the object, we continue on and see within the reflections the original view, and then suddenly the stages of transformation. Through a gradual process, reflection moves away from clarity, and shatters into total fragmentation. Reality is transformed into chaos. The photographs you see here are not those documented by the camera, but rather images configured by processing and editing, impacted upon by my mood and thoughts. I hope that the viewer will find appeal in this dialogue, gazing at reflections best observed through our legendary third eye. Shifra Levyathan
