Structure in Reflection (about the exhibition "Frame Stories") Shifra Levyathan's photographs are reflections of tall, multi-window buildings, containing fragmented views facing them, and create secret drama that takes place lines of division tidy by characterized are works Her altitudes. imaginary almost at by created combinations on based compositions organized with outlines, and nature, colors and images generated haphazardly, but adopted by her as live and existing art. Looking at the new photos exhibited in Yahalom Theatre we feel somewhat confused. It is hard to decide what is more dominant and impressive and who the heroes of the exhibition are: the structure itself, or maybe the view and the objects seen from the opposite windows. Whatever we may think, the fact is that Shifra Levyathan’s original mind and creative imagination are the prime heroes of the works. The photos are direct, prominent, frontal, never outsmarting the spectator. Since these are mid-day outdoor photos, the quality of work stands out with its strong colors and shades, and it is hard not to be impressed by the massive strength of these gigantic structures. The works are romantic, all characterized by great potency of positive energy and the tendency to find the beautiful aspect of the building. There is something human and sympathetic in the selection of a segment of a picture that reveals presence and events visible from the windows of the opposite building. Unclear, abstract and somewhat enigmatic information is inherent in the wish and constant aspiration to peep and find what lurks within the opposite building, an enigma to which the spectator may find the answer most suitable to him. Shifra Levyathan's photos invite the spectator to an urban tour of the core of the city; they allow him to experience known sights in a new language, reflections that create views and sceneries undergoing “artistic distortion” – kind of artificial creasing created by the camera – that creates, in its turn, the uniqueness of the new image. The line and aesthetic quality are maintained in all works, and sometimes create dramatic gaps between real life and the photo. But the real issue was and is the effect created by the segment chosen and treated by Shifra Levyathan. The exhibition shows several similar, complementing works. The urban scenery shown here is characterized by a restrained beauty, and the wish to see what happens at high altitudes. Viewing Shifra Levyathan’s works we float for a moment away from life, flying to worlds detached from reality, sipping good wine, and for ever feeling that we all are part of the same scenery.
